Can't sleep, wanted to write this drabble I suppose it is. Well, what woke me was Moonshine howling at feral cat #3 to be dropped off near my house with the telltale pink collar.
Diary of a Petsitter
Parade of pugnacious pugs
And then there are pug fanciers, devoted people who enjoy begin walked on, bullied, and regularly snorted on by little squash-faced creatures that look to me like overgrown bats without the wings. Don't get me wrong, I love pugs dearly. They make excellent apartment pets. In my experience, a good natured pug can get along with anyone, human or animal.
And of course, if you get too many together they can fight and put out each other's protuberant little pug eyes! If they didn't need such close supervision, I wouldn't get paid.
The thing is, Debby has three of the little devils and her neighbor across the street has two. So a simple walk the dogs at noon turns into a pugfest of grand proportion. Add to that the great dane and golden retriever and you have a veritable parade around the yard.
Everything went smoothly. We took a tour of Debby's rather large enclosed yard, sniffing every tree and peeing on every blade of grass. Then there was an adorable little pug derby. You know, when they chase each other with great vigor in circles about the lawn, grunting in their exertion as only pugs can, for approximately 30 seconds.
I washed and filled water bowls and tidied a bit about the house, then we went for round two around the yard. Then, as a good-bye treat I got a handful of 'cookies' from the porcelain dog. Once each, a half for the diabetic pug.
"Here you go sweetie," I stared giving the cookies out one by one. Snap! Gulp! they were disappearing and the pugs weren't satisfied. They weren't going to lie down like good little pugs. That's the deal. Cookie, then go lie down so I can get out the door. Snap! Gulp! Who hasn't had one yet? 5 little vampire bat snouts slavered at me, ravenous and closing in for the kill. I passed out cookies faster, faster. Snap! Gulp! Someone nipped my finger! Piranha pugs devouring my flesh!
I ran.

Third Millennium Tarot
Newsletter #1 Summer 2001
Some of you have known me for years as Melissa, some as Jamuna. Today I’m wearing my Lady Lorelei, Certified Tarot Reader hat.
Good News
I just officially qualified for CPTR, the 3rd certification rank offered by the Tarot Certification Board, TCB at http://tarotcertification.org /. It’s taken over a year to get here. Recently, I crossed emails and forgot the reading date with my mentor, Certified Tarot Grand Master, Eileen Crouch, who is Executive Director of the Canadian Tarot Network at http://www.tarotcanada.com/ . She was gracious and unphased and even let me use her toll-free number for the ‘live’ tarot reading. She went down the list of requirements quizzing me on how I deal with difficult and inappropriate requests. Then I made up a spread on the fly to address her request. She switched the cards I’d drawn around and asked me to reinterpret the spread, something that makes no sense to me, but which the TCB seems to think is necessary. During the course of all this her son climbed on the counter and her cat threw up on her shoe. Thousands of obeisances unto her lotus feet!
Ultimately, I’m working toward the rank of Certified Tarot Master. I have one more interim level to achieve before I can get it, Certified Tarot Consultant. Toward that end I’m working on a Major Arcana Curriculum using the Tarot of Gemstones and Crystals. I also have to compile a list of local and national resources for client referral, attribute the 78 cards to some paradigm, and a couple other things.
In the Works
I can’t recall how it started, but I conceived of a tarot lay-out in the shape of three pentacles, or three 5 sided, 5 pointed stars, each describing the Past Present Future of the querent, or the Body Mind Spirit, or some other handy 3 part spread. 78 cards of a traditional tarot deck divides by 3 into 26 per pentacle. That lays out nicely with the first and last card of each pentacle crossing or one atop the other, a natural ‘this crosses you’ interpretation. The cards can be laid out invoking or devoking depending on the direction the pentacle is ‘drawn’, indicating what needs to be done, or not done; what is coming into being or leaving the querent’s life. I’m real excited to explore the possibilities of the 5 sides of each area of the lay-out.
Also in the works is a sudden inspiration spread I received while driving home from work one evening. 78 cards divides by 6 into 13. The Triple Goddess spread is laid out in the shapes of a waxing moon, full moon, and waning moon symbolizing the Maiden, Mother, Crone of a woman’s lifetime (or Youth/Father/Sage for a man). The waxing curves are what is coming in to play in the querent’s life, or how that period in the querent’s life is affecting her now. Full is now present, waning is leaving, or may be lessons that need to be learned.
I haven’t laid out either spread yet, but when I do I’ll get a better feel for what I want to do with them. Any volunteers for a FREE full-deck spread? Choose the Pentacle or Triple Goddess and remember, you heard it FIRST from Third Millennium Tarot!
Light, love, and laughter,
Lorelei

Newsletter #2 Winter 2002
GOOD NEWS
It’s been much longer since the last Newsletter than I had ever feared. As soon as I sent out that first newsletter, my free ISP folded and I couldn’t get the domain name transferred, so I started all over and reworked my pages. Then, in simply uploading my site, I exceeded my limit. I immediately notified the ISP to upgrade me to a larger account. They responded by ignoring me for days, then deleting my site completely. That’s one reason I’m using my Yahoo account to email this eletter. Anyway, the new site is up at www.tarotgoddess.net and I’ve changed my business name to Tarot Goddess Network. Pretty cool, huh? Tarotgoddess.com was bought by someone who only wants to resell it, a practice I find reprehensible. And the .net has me thinking in terms of networking which harmonizes with my dream of an internet tarot consultancy. Just email if you would like a reading. Don’t use the order form yet, it needs work. My site, as always, is a work in progress.
APOLOGY
In the last newsletter I joyfully offered the full deck spreads for free and I was happy to do it and gained mucho experience and enlightenment. But the readings literally take about 2 days for me to go through and finish (not 48 hours straight, but as much concentration and focus as I can manage for 2 days). Some that were on the list for a full deck reading got lost by the wayside as my life took some twists and turns of it’s own. That offer is still open to those I promised. I apologize for not following through. I’d be happy to make it up at this late date.
I learned to keep free reading offers down to smaller spreads like the Gandalf Spread in the Free Reading section of this Newsletter below. So I’ll only mention here that I’ve created a 14 card Quidditch spread based on the game played on flying broomsticks invented by JK Rowling in her Harry Potter books. It goes like this:
3 Chasers – body mind and spirit where you are now
Quaffle – carrot you are chasing, burden you bear
2 Bludgers – obstacles, conflicts
2 Beaters – help for those obstacles
Seeker - You
Keeper – Inner You
3 Goals – body mind and spirit where you are heading
Golden Snitch – get out of jail free card – the secret you need
IN THE WORKS
I’ve said before that I am working toward the rank of CTM or Certified Tarot Master. The reading, study, and writing requirements are just a matter of time, but the mentoring requirement is something I can’t do alone. I need 5 students to mentor. So if any of you are interested in learning the tarot, I’d be happy to help you. It’s not exactly a teacher/student relationship, much less formal. The student decides what deck and books and spreads they will study and the mentor is there for discussion and advice. If you’ve thought about learning to read tarot cards but don’t know where to begin I can point you to several resources and share my beginning experiences with you. If you already know how to read somewhat but want to become better and want to read for someone besides yourself and your family, I can help you there too.
FREE READING OFFER
In honor of “The Fellowship of the Ring”’s Oscar nominations, this quarter’s free reading offer is the Gandalf spread from the Lord of the Ring’s Tarot deck. I don’t read with that deck, but this spread is a nice way to take a general look around an issue or concern.

1 – present

GOOD NEWS
I beta test and QA test a lot of computer hardware and software to pay my bills. So it was a delight to help Patrice beta test her www.3dtarotonline.com site. I’m not sure when it will be open for business, but it’s a real cool way to do live online readings.
On my own site, www.tarotgoddess.net I scrapped the order form and just posted a page of instructions for ordering readings by email.
Progress toward CTM certification is coming along. I’m having too much fun in my garden! But I do have 4 official students to mentor. Let me know if you are interested in learning to read the tarot for yourself.
IN THE WORKS
The rain has always been an inspiration to my writing. I wrote gobs of poetry and songs in my childhood when it rained. In March I wrote 6 tarot deck and book reviews. They are on my site and up on Devon’s site www.lunarace.com. (Devon pays me for my writing in stunningly beautiful tarot bags from www.witchmade.com.) However, you won’t see my reviews at www.tarotreview.com, the official review site of the ATA (American Tarot Association). The ATA respectfully refused my Lord of the Rings Tarot review because it was negative and they only publish positive reviews.
Ahem.
I respectfully asked that they withdraw my other articles from their website and resigned as assistant webmaster.
If this has piqued your interest, check out the review here: http://www.lunarace.com/tarot/deck39.html or click ‘Decks and Spreads’ on my site, www.tarotgoddess.net .
FREE READING OFFER
This quarter’s free reading offer is for a Rune Reading.
From the Special Services section of www.tarotgoddess.net :
I use the runes of the Elder Futhark, cast simply without a defined spread, and interpret them in modern terms.
One Rune
A specific answer to a specific question.
What issue it is you are dealing with at present?
Simple Cast
Usually 3-5 runes. The runes are shaken and stirred and a few are taken and cast. The upright runes are what is going on right now and why. The face down runes show where these influences are leading.
Full Cast
All 24 runes are shaken and cast. The position of each and the relation of runes near to each other is interpreted, starting with the central or most influential and out to the farthest or least influential.
Light, love, and laughter,

GOOD NEWS
My well is fixed, I now have running water in my house!
Change is good, right? There’s been a recent uproar in the national tarot community, specifically with the ATA membership. The upshot for me personally is that at the moment higher certification is not possible. I plan to continue with the CTM (Certified Tarot Master) requirements simply because they are useful studies in professional development. The following is quoted from an email from the newly refurbished ATA Board:
Certifications - The ATA has not previously and is not planning now
to act as a certification board. We have learned from Mari Blaine
(former Secretary of the TCB) that the Tarot Certification Board
has been dissolved. She and others are considering starting over.
There are two certification boards forming and they seem to be antagonistic, so I fully expect things to keep changing before it settles down. Change is the norm in the tarot community, it appears.
IN THE WORKS
Heads Up! I’m reworking the Links page of my website. Let me know if you would like a link to appear there. Tell me exactly what you want it to say and I'll get it up within a week. Please place a link to my site on your site in exchange.
Of the blue, I had an inquiry about the Old Gypsy Fortune Telling deck. See my review at http://www.tarotgoddess.net/Decks/gypsy.htm . Quarto Publishing of London asked me to write a book proposal for their reissue of this deck. They will present the proposal at a publisher's fair in Frankfurt, Germany in October.
I’ve written outlines for two workshops. The first, “Read Tarot Now”, is for people who have little or no tarot reading experience, and for experienced readers who are feeling stagnant or who want a new way to look at the cards. The second, “Create Tarot Spreads” is for the experienced reader and deals with creating spreads to answer difficult, oddball, or multi-faceted questions. I also offer “Make Your Own Tarot Deck” which I presented at Carolina Spirit Quest.
FREE READING OFFER
This month I’ll do the reading of your choice as long as you let me post it (anonymously, of course) on my website. Go to www.tarotgoddess.net, click “Decks and Spreads” and scroll down to check out all the different available tarot spreads.

Newsletter #5 Fall 2002
GOOD NEWS
The tarot community suffered a cringe moment when US media reported a tarot card found at the scene of one of the sniper shootings in Maryland. I wondered what card from which deck it was and whether a tarot expert would be called in to help with the profiling of the killer. The handwritten message on the Death card, "Dear policemen, I am God." leaves no doubt to the killer's mental state, but it also leaves yet another faulty impression of what tarot is all about in the minds of the ignorant public. I was surprised and delighted with the American Tarot Association's swift response. They posted a FAQ on their website the day after the story broke. http://www.ata-tarot.com/dc-incident/index.htm
I check www.wral.com everyday for my local news and weather. They had the story with a picture of the Waite Death card and text to the effect that this was similar to the card found at the scene; which means they don’t know which deck it came from. I clicked their link on the card and to my surprise, found myself at Joan Bunning's Learn Tarot site, www.learntarot.com.. She's a wonderful person with a wonderful site and tarot business. Buy her decks and books!
The week of 10/18/2002 Newsweek arrived in my mailbox with the Death card on the front cover. It struck me as kind of cool that 2 weeks before Halloween, Newsweek has a skeleton with a huge scythe on its cover.
Recently the FRN and FTN (free reading sites sponsored by the ATA) decided to institute a Senior Reader status. The Senior Readers no longer have to touch base with their mentors every month. I applied for it, not that I don’t want to talk to Eileen every month, but I don’t want to have to keep track of when I last emailed her. I check in with her when I have a question or an interesting tarot item to discuss. At first I was refused, but when I argued that the criticisms were subjective and had nothing to do with the Senior Reader requirements, I was awarded the status. A few days later, the driving force behind the Senior Reader status and Manager of both networks, resigned. She said she burned out from fighting every step of the way. That's regrettable, but we see it over and over again within the ATA, and perhaps within the tarot reading community at large. People have a great idea and step up to the plate to manifest that idea. But then the cats start herding off in different directions and it takes tremendous energy to round them up again and get them all focused in one direction. Cats have minds of their own. I doubt that home inspectors faced this sort of lack of direction 50 years ago when they were turning their trade into a certifiable profession.
IN THE WORKS
Quarto Publishing of London is re-issuing the Old Gypsy Fortune Telling Cards originally published by Whitman in 1940. Out of the blue, they contacted me to write the accompanying book, because of the deck review on my website, http://www.tarotgoddess.net/Decks/gypsy.htm . We can't track down any concrete copyright information, so they are redrawing the cards, but sticking with the previous themes. When that's done, I'll get cracking on the book. Another project that grew out of my personal collage deck is a book about Digital Scrapbooking, for the same publisher. We are collaborating on the scrapbook pages currently.

FREE READING OFFER
Let's get back to the basics with a One Card Reading. These little readings are very powerful and focused. In your request, concentrate on pinpointing exactly what it is you want a tarot reading about.

This quarter's free reading offer is something completely different. I feel it needs a bit of an introduction. This goes back several months when I was walking my dog Daisy through the farm/logging roads in
the forest behind my house. We came across the little glade where I knew the deer bones where. I'd gotten the idea to put any stray skulls on the end of a tree branch to give the local farmboys a thrill as they
haul seed and feed on their ATVs. So I did that and was looking at the rest of the deer bones; about 12 similar 8-10 inch long bones in the customary dog bone shape; probably leg bones. I got inspired to gather
them all up cast them for divination. The questions was:
Am I to take these bones and use them for divination?
Looking at the pattern of the fallen bones I saw a distinct Y and E, but not a clear S and not any N or O. So I took that to be Yes and carried the bones home.
I've done a few readings with them. Like runes, for me, it's a real different experience than reading the tarot. It's very intuitive, applying the shapes and patterns of the bones to the shapes and patterns of the energies surrounding the question.
So ask away and we'll see what the bones say!
Light, love, and laughter,

GOOD NEWS
You know I keep talking about my book, "Gypsy Fortunes" which is due out in September, published by Barron's in the US. Well, Sarah Tomley of Quarto Publishing who asked me to write that book, now works for Hamlyn, also in London, and she has asked me for more tarot book ideas. I’ve sent her two proposals. Let’s hope Hamlyn accepts both!
By the way, “Gypsy Fortunes” goes to repro next week. So everything is on schedule with it.
I’m doing two more tarot study group meetings at the metaphysical store in Sanford www.everythingmagical.com That’s at 10:30 Saturday morning on May 17th and 31st. We’ll discuss reversals, larger spreads, and do some hands-on live readings. Hope to see you there.
IN THE WORKS
One of my tarot clients happens to be a web designer. I’d been kicking around the idea of redesigning my website because the frames didn’t turn out the way I want, the order form wouldn’t work, and when my webhost got sold, I lost the ability to reply to email with my domain name. That last is infuriating and unacceptable. The other things are minor glitches that can be worked out.
Anyway, this lovely lady in Australia volunteered to barter readings for her webdesign and we are well on our way to creating a really cool, easy to navigate site that does all the things I want it to. The goal is to have it up and running by September, when the book comes out, because it will contain my web address.
Is there anyone out there who loves their low-cost webhost?
FREE OFFER
This time of year the seeds are sprouting, the blossoms are blooming and we are making great strides in our goals for the year.
What are you trying to accomplish this year?
What seeds are you growing?
Let’s talk about it and create a unique tarot spread to address your process.

Welcome to all the Goddesses I met at the Goddess Fair July 13 at the EarthStar Spiritual Center in Greensboro. Their fundraiser was a success and a lot of fun. I managed to give 11 readings in 2 hours which was great because all the querents were really up on their own process and totally open to what the tarot had for them.
The book/deck set “Gypsy Fortunes” by Lady Lorelei, is available for pre-order at both Barnes and Noble and Amazon. (Or if you want to support your local bookstore, the ISBN is 0-7641-7709-5.) Don’t believe the product description. It’s about a year old and did not change as the book changed. It’s impossible to fit a 36 card spread into a 96 page book that includes 36 two-page card descriptions. Click here for extra chapters that had to be cut:
http://www.tarotgoddess.net/book.htm
They include a reading on the re-election of George Bush for a second term and more information about Mademoiselle Lenormand.

Please see the attached flyer for info on the Tarot 111 workshop I’m giving in Greensboro on Saturday August 9. It’s at the EarthStar Spiritual Center off Spring Garden. I’d love to see you there!
Hamlyn Publishers in London asked me to write the “Tarot Life Planner”, a book in the series along with Lillian Too’s “I-Ching Life Planner”. They are currently shopping two sample chapters at the publishers fair in Frankfurt, Germany.
Special undying infinite thanks goes to Jenni Callaghan, Webmistress Extraordinaire of Australia, for booting me onto a new web host and getting the new site up and running. We are still uploading pages and changing details. Ignore the typos and pages in progress, but please point out the glaring errors. And, if you haven’t already, take a look at http://www.tarotgoddess.net and let me know how you like the new look.

GOOD NEWS
Hope you all had happy holidays and are staying warm through the winter weather. The NC ‘Gypsy Fortunes’ signing tour was a success. It was great meeting you and doing readings live, right there in a Borders bookstore (and Spectacle Books, too)! Thanks so much for your support!
I’d like to announce a new tarot workshop I’m giving at the EarthStar Spiritual Center in Greensboro at 10 am on Saturday March 27. It’s called Read Tarot Now because we are going to ask a question, deal out some cards, and start reading! The $40 price includes a copy of my “Gypsy Fortunes” book/deck set used in the workshop. If you already have the book, your cost is only $20. More details here:
http://www.tarotgoddess.net/images/calendar.jpg
How many of you would be interested in attending this workshop in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, or some other area? Let me know, and I’ll work on setting it up.
IN THE WORKS
Several projects are in the works from an online magickal supply store to 5 book proposals. The most serious of these attempts is “The Hero With 78 Faces” associating Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey with the tarot. This is an idea batted about with Hamlyn Publishing last year. Turns out Campbell wrote an essay associating the major arcana of the Marseilles deck, mostly to Dante’s Inferno, which doesn’t really help me. Of course, if he’d written about the tarot and the Hero’s Journey, I wouldn’t have a book to write.
Other projects include the ‘Rescued Kitten Tarot’ and ‘78 Views of Chatham County’. Details on this and other projects are posted at my new subdomain:
www.mkm.tarotgoddess.net
Click on Writing Resume to see Proposed Works.
OFF-TOPIC
Another subdomain I’ve created shows the Art of Bruce McKamey. His ballpoint originals are displayed for sale at the Pittsboro General store (that one SOLD!) and at Spectacle Books in Siler City. Copies can be obtained through me at:
http://www.mckamey.tarotgoddess.net/
FREE READING OFFER
You may have noticed that I’m no longer giving free readings through my website. Oddly, I had about 12 requests one week in November and was overwhelmed. So now, the only people who are offered free readings are YOU, my mailing list!
Send me your questions and concerns and I’ll do a 1, 2, or 3 card reading for you with the Gypsy Fortunes tarot.
READING SPECIAL
Just in time for Valentine’s Day -- the 14 Card Open My Heart Spread developed exclusively for the “Tarot Life Planner” regularly $50 - now just $25 -- through the end of February! 14 cards are laid out in the shape of a heart. The two sides are two different paths to achieve happiness and love in abundance.
6 7 13 12
5 14 11
4 10
3 9
2 8

The first card is you as you are now and may give a clue as to why you are not as open to love as you could be. The two arms of the heart are two paths to get to a place of receptivity to love. The final card is you as you could be should you follow either of these paths.
The left curve of the heart, cards 2 through 7, are stages you must pass through. As you see things happen and are reminded of these cards, you will know you are getting closer. These 5 steps will most likely be taken in order. First, you experience or become the energy or characteristic of Card 2, then that of Card 3, and so on.
You can work both paths simultaneously, or choose one.
The right curve of the heart, cards 8 through 13, are action items or things you need to do or work on or improve. They may appear in any order, or you may have to consciously go seeking them. As an option, assign yourself areas you know you need to work on and use the cards drawn to understand what you need to do in that area, or use these:
Card 8 ability to listen to my self
9 ability to nurture my self
10 truly loving my self
11 listening with patience and understanding
12 ability to cooperate
13 ability to communicate
If the final card is some positive relationship card like the Lovers or 2, 3, 10, or any court card of the Cups suit, then you will most likely find yourself in a strong fulfilling relationship when you have worked through the archetypes presented by the cards you drew.
Light, love, and laughter,

Iced in here in NC and expecting another half inch of freezing rain. Good! I can clean up my office and catch up on all the mail I didn't get to over the Christmas holidays. Also, work on the store idea. The basic outline is Melissa Michael Magick - potions, tools, spell candles that I've made plus cool stuff I pick up cheap and can sell at a profit. Actual store in the guest room, but sold through online auctions.
You here of people making a nice living off ebay, but then you also hear of people giving up after one to five years because they didn't make money. The fees for each auction seem outrageous to me unless you sell a pricey item with low shipping cost.
My question is - who is making a living at ebay and how did you do it?

The order form is down.
The Evil White Kitty is in the crawlspace. If he turns out to be male, I'll name him Elric and get him a rabies shot. He let me pet his head.
Is there anyone out there who would like to provide venture capital - no, make that a grant - to open a metaphysical store in downtown Pittsboro, NC? I'm sure it would do great!
I'm working on a Patron page for my site, describing the type of patronage I'd love to have to support my writing, spiritual pursuits, healing certifications, and long term goals. Surely someone out there wants to support magickal arts! Hmmm, donations for rescued kittens, too.

Robin Hood the blind poodle is being whiny today. One never knows if he has gas or crystals; if it's something to do with his eyes or warts; the cold or what!
I think everyone who listens to Rush needs to realize that 5+ years worth of his rants were drug induced.
Gave away Shellie and Shirley today. It was much less painful this time. When I tried before, it was like ripping off a limb and wasted an afternoon, and didn't even happen!
Is it January hibernation, or writing avoidance techniques?
Milestone - I completed the bookcase project conceived and begun in April 2003, the week I lost my job. And what a wonderful springboard that turned out to be!
